senses

Sights of the season:
icicle lights on the roof
tinsel stars wrapped around every streetlight in Cerritos
lit Christmas trees peeking through every window
sale! sale! sale!
broken toy train wrapped around the Christmas tree
stockings and cards around the fireplace
giant poinsettias in every corner
frenzied wrapping paper throw-up everywhere
two mismatching wreaths at the door
the trees on Anthony Drive

Smells of the season:
the subtle linger of fresh pine in the house
freshly baked chocolate cookies
cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg

Sounds of the season:
the Salvation Army man playing his sax in front of Wal-Mart
Karen Sharp and KOST 103.5
jingling
dad's Christmas CD on the sound system
obnoxious laughter
the crunch of dead leaves
Tinkering on the piano
The nagging beep of the oven timer

Words of the season:
“ 'And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and goodwill towards men.’
…That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
Let's not lose amidst the hustle and bustle what "the season"'s about - a baby. Have a Merry Christmas, everyone!

Cookie baking, carol singing, light viewing time with family. Missing the sister ):
